Heart of England students have come tops in Solihull in a sporting competition!
Over the last few weeks, students from across Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull have been taking part in getting active and competing in a virtual challenge. Run by Think Active, the scheme involves children getting active in a variety of sports activities from within the home.
Each week the emphasis is on a different sport; the first which took place last week was athletics. This week, it is cricket with tennis and dance to follow.
The recent athletics challenge consisted of two activities; the standing long jump and a 20x5m shuttle run with the details of how to complete the challenges on the Think Active website.
The athletics event was a great success across the county with 2924 pupils taking part from across 224 schools, with 531 from secondary schools. In South Solihull 770 pupils took part from 41 different schools which included our school, Heart of England.
Heart of England students have done particularly well, coming first in the South Solihull area as a team and with one or our students Zach H emerging as overall winner! “It was also great to see a pupil from Heart of England as the key stage 3 individual winner as well!” said Julie Chrysostomou, PE and School Sport Development Officer of South Solihull School Sport Partnership.
To mark their achievements, each student gets an e-certificate on completion of challenges. At the end of each week the top three students in each key stage will receive a £5 Amazon voucher and the Primary and Secondary school with the highest percentage of participants at the end of the competition will receive £75 of PE equipment. Look at the table below and see how we are doing – come of Heart of England!
Head of PE, Miss Sykes said: “I’m very proud of our students for their outstanding participation in the Virtual School Games last week. It’s great to see such a big participation in sport at the moment.”
