Computer Science
Hello, we’d like to welcome you to Heart of England School and to our Computer Science department.
In Computer Science we like to learn about … Computers!
- How they are built: what is inside them – hardware
- How that works: with switches that are on or off
- How to make them do things that we want by writing programs
- How to use programs that other people have written
Along the way we will also develop your ICT skills: presenting your work using different software and organising the work so that you can find it easily as well as staying safe when working on computers.
We will give you a user name and password when you start school and we will teach you how to use these to access your work, timetable, homework and much more. You will need to remember these for every lesson.
We know that some people are really lucky and have computers and a lot of help at home but we also know that this is not the case for everyone so we don’t expect everyone to be good at everything.
We will support you and set you work that is fun and challenging to develop your computing skills so that you are a confident user of computers which will benefit you for all your subjects and activities outside of school.
We’re all looking forward to meeting you.

History
History offers an exciting opportunity to explore the past and understand how events hundreds of years ago, help to shape and influence the world around us today.
Part of History is to understand why things happened, something that is not always straight forward, so you will need to use your skills of investigation in order to create your theories.
History is also the study of important individuals and how they have contributed to the world. Not all of those we studyhave necessarily had a positive impact on people, their countries or the world, but it is important to study a range of people to understand the course of History.
History involves looking locally, nationally and globally to build a big picture. History at Heart of England will involve all of this, challenge your thinking and help you develop skills that will stretch beyond the study of History.
