The LRC is open from 8.30am until 4.30pm every day (until 4.00pm on Fridays) including break and lunchtimes, for reading, researching and doing homework.
The LRC holds a wide selection of fiction ranging from the classics up to the latest novels as well as running a request system for any books students want to read. The fiction area recently had a revamp and now is a colourful and fun place to read and chat.
The LRC also houses a large selection of non-fiction resources including material to support the school curriculum as well as a wide range of general interest books from gymnastics to the Guinness Book of Records, as well as a range of career related books and online resources. The LRC also has a selection of DVDs and Audio Books that can be borrowed for no extra fee.
The LRC also has networked computers that can be used for homework during social time, as well as being used by classes during lesson time. All the computers also have access to the schools new library catalogue, SearchStar, where students can reserve books, write reviews and see what the most popular books are at the moment. SearchStar can be found on the CSE button.
We also involved with several book awards, most recently the Solihull Children’s Book Award which was won by Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce. Several students had the opportunity to attend the ceremony, meet the shortlisted authors, have questions answered and books signed.
There are events throughout the year in the LRC, including author visits and World Book Day celebrations.
