It has been an action-packed week with students doing well in a variety of sporting activities. Here are some of this week’s Sports Roundup highlights:
Netball
The Year 11 Borough netball team played outstandingly in the final school netball tournament this week. They secured a brilliant third place in the Solihull Schools tournament. The team played seven matches winning four, losing two and drawing one resulting in them being just one win away from securing a place at county level.
The girls played some the best netball they’ve ever played in the competition. It was a deserving reward for their commitment and effort over the last five years. The team consisting of Niamh, Lily-Bea, Hannah, Carrie, Charlize, Caitlin and Georgia will go on to play this season in the Solihull league and they have their eye on some medals! Good Luck Girls!
Football
Year 8 and Year 11 teams were in action this week with mixed results but lots of positive outcomes to work on. The Year 8s travelled to Alderbrook where they played well but were defeated 6-2 by a good side. The score line didn’t reflect the quality of the game with Heart of England missing some chances – something to build on next time. Players of the match for their terrific displays were George and Alex.
Year 11 played in the Birmingham Cup against Coleshill on Thursday and came away with a victory which sees them progressing into the next round. Well Done Boys!
Tennis
Having won the Solihull Schools League last summer, the under 15 Boys tennis team progressed to the national knock-out stages where they faced King Edwards, Edgbaston. In wet conditions the boys played well against talented competition to win one doubles match and lose the singles. King Edwards triumphed overall but our team of Owen, Regan, Lawrence and Tom can hold their heads high – well fought boys!
Golf

Big congratulations go to Roxanne from Year 11 who was crowned Ladies Champion at her club, Forest of Arden last weekend. The title qualified her to play at the European Senior Pro Am’s which are televised on Sky Sports! Good Luck Roxanne! Fellow golfer Anthony Bridgeman, Year 9 was also celebrating this week after attending the England Golf Awards held at Wentworth Golf Club. Anthony has been making a steady move up the ranks which has seen him play on various courses around and beyond England, collecting invites for more competitions as he goes. Well Done Anthony!
