After a long hiatus, charity events have returned to the life of the school and the Heart of England Sixth Form have player a charity football match for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

On a hot and sunny lunch time the teams gathered on the field where the spectators paid a £1.00 donation for a view of the match.
Playing the game were Team Black and Team Blue and after a few stretches and drinks of water the players took up their positions on the pitch and the match was started by the referee Mr Taylor at 12:53.
The Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity offering unique care and support tailored to young people with cancer. They fund nurses, youth workers and hospital units in the NHS to give them access to support during their treatment.
Not long after the game began a penalty was awarded to Team Black who took good aim for the goal, but the shot was saved by the Blue Team goalkeeper Talha.
Buoyed up by this, Team Black kept up the pressure for a while in the Blue half but eventually Blue were able to break away into the Black half and play continued to swap to-and-fro over the next part of the match.
Seven minutes into the game Blue missed an attempt at scoring with a shot going somewhat wide of the right-hand post.
Play reverted back to the Blue half where a corner awarded to Team Black was crossed well into the box but the shot taken was missed by the receiving striker. A further attempt by Black at 13 minutes also went wide to the left.
No score at half time.
After a short break for a drink, play continued with more pressure on Blue in another failed shot from Black, easily saved by the goalie.
Finally, at 20 minutes match time, Team Black scored with a hard-hitting shot by Finn into the left of the goal. The goal fired up Team Blue who continued to play much more aggressively, desperate for an equaliser. There was a great sequence of passes by Blue from the left-hand side all the way up-field but the resulting shot was much too high and it sailed over the goal and over the perimeter fence, beyond reach.
The loss of the ball marked the end of the match, which only had a couple more minutes left, and resulted in Team Black being declared the winners with a 1-0 score.
After the match, Deputy Head Boy Laurence said: “We chose to sponsor the Teenage Cancer Trust earlier in the year from a shortlist put together by students. We’ve raised over £90 with this event and we’re planning on at least one more before the end of the year.”
The idea for the event came from student Talha. “We thought it would be a popular event because a lot of us play football and would want to take part. Added to that we knew it would draw a decent crowd across the school.”
Team Blue player Dylan said: “The teams were made up from friendship groups across the year which meant that there was already a bit or rivalry and competitiveness between them.”
Well done to both teams for a great event and for creating a bit of excitement during break time. Will there be a re-match? We hope so!
