After months of rehearsal, our production of Oliver! is ready for performance! The cast have been readying themselves for the opening night on Tuesday 11 February with an intensive rehearsal schedule and on-stage preparations.
The scenery is all set, the lighting is all programmed and it’s looking very good. With only the dress rehearsal to go and a special pre-view performance for Balsall Common Primary School’s Year 6 the live performances are upon us.
Written be Lionel Bart in 1960 the original show enjoyed long runs in the West End and on Broadway before being made into a much-loved film in 1968. Many of the songs are well-known and we are very pleased to bring the Heart of England production to life at our school. Full of great songs like Food, Glorious Food, I’d Do Anything and Consider Yourself we will be raising the rafters during all the shows!
Our musical productions are a great opportunity for students to get involved in something different. In total 40 students are in some way taking part: either as members of the cast, orchestra or back stage crew in some way, be it props, mic management or just painting! Cast member and Year 13 student Megan Rush, who plays Bill Sikes said: “Since excitedly joining the cast of Grease in Year 7, I have looked forward to the school productions every year. From the harmonies in The Sound of Music to the dance routines in Back to the Eighties – I’ve loved them all. Oliver! is my final production at Heart of England School as I’m leaving at the end of the year.”
Producer and director Miss Owen said: “It’s been great fun working on such a classic musical. There are so many iconic characters and songs and the cast bring them to life so well. From the cute and innocent Oliver, to the evil Bill Sikes and the cheeky, funny Dodger and Fagin. The cast really have worked so hard and have been super dedicated this year. I can’t wait to see the final product!”
The show opens on Tuesday 11 February and runs until Thursday 13 with tickets priced at £6.00 for adults and £4.00 children/concessions on Tuesday and Wednesday and £7.00/£4.50 on Thursday. Tickets are available from school.
Hope to see you there!
