According to the NHS nearly a third of the population struggle to get a good night’s sleep. This includes those of us who struggle to fall asleep every night, once or twice a week or have long bouts of wakefulness in the small hours.
This term our well-being practitioner Mrs Troughton is introducing some meditations and advice about sleep starting with Suggestions and Meditation on Sleep.
In the first session Mrs Troughton focuses on what we might do to manage our wakefulness when it arrives during the night and advises some possible remedies to get us off to sleep. The end of the video includes a sleep meditation of 19 minutes.
Also included are suggested books, links and music resources for exploration and further assistance.
“Since the lockdown started and perhaps even before, many people have had problems sleeping,” said Mrs Troughton. “These sessions are designed to help with getting better sleep and feeling less stressed.”
Mrs Troughton will be making further recordings about sleep including one specifically for teenagers. The Solihull School Nursing Team have also produced a Sleep video for teenagers and young people. This is a basic guide with ideas about how to improve sleep and their awareness of how to improve their sleep and why it is important.
Getting better sleep is good for our overall health. A young person who sleeps well is more likely to feel and stay safe, perform well at school, control and deal with their emotions and maintain good physical health.
