Coming Up This Week…

Year 10 Parents Evening: 18 January

Appointments from 4pm – 7pm.  Slots are 6 minutes long and for shared classes with the teacher who carries responsibility for the class or teaches them most often.  Bookings close 2.00pm on 18 January 2023.  Pre-booking opening soon for this online event on SchoolCloud.

Year 11 Sixth Form Taster day: 18 January

For the students who have applied for a place in Sixth Form you have been sent an e-mail to your school address with information on how to register for taster day.  The deadline for registering is 11.30pm on Sunday 15 January. There will be no exceptions to this deadline due to the amount of work required to produce timetables, registers and arrange the day.

Second hand school uniform

Thank you to all those families who have kindly donated their old school uniform.  This has enabled us to support families who might be struggling with the cost of new uniform, together with allowing students with damaged or misplaced uniform to temporarily borrow items.  Please continue to drop off your donations of clean, good quality uniform at school Reception and we will gratefully make very good use of them.

PTA

  • Save the Day: PTA Quiz on 10 February 7pm for 7.30pm start. Fish & Chips plus bar.  More details in the New Year

Year 9 Advanced Notice

Year 9 assessment week is week beginning 23 January 2023.  Individual subjects will let students know which day the assessment is.  There will be more information from Mr Haston.

Year 8 Assessment: Week Beginning Monday 13 February 2023

Please read the email from Mr Haston about the upcoming assessment week which includes advice on helping your child.  Any issues, please get in touch with your child’s form tutor.

Poetry Club

Poetry Club have been presented with an exciting opportunity to attend a workshop run by the poet Matt Windle www.poetrywithpunch.com at Balsall Common Library on the 16 March.

In our weekly sessions, the group have been experimenting with different forms of poetry, getting to grips with various rhythms and rhyme schemes. Here is our Haiku of the week from Cadey, inspired by the Japanese greats:

Stood gracefully still
Watching your eyes wonder
BANG, back to reality

English Afterschool Sessions

The days are getting lighter, time to illuminate your understanding of English Literature: so Karimjee’s afterschool sessions are starting again.  Family poems and/or Macbeth to start with.  Room M217.  Bring a snack. 3.30-4.30. Let me know if there is something you really want to recap, ideally beforehand.

ID Card Requirement

Students must use their ID cards or fingerprint to purchase food.  Any students without their ID cards will be served after those with them. If your child needs a replacement, you can purchase one on ParentPay.

Clubs

  • KS3 Book Club: KS3 Book Club is starting this Tuesday. Bring lunch to M124 and be ready to pick our first read!
  • Music: Music Clubs restart this coming week and Practise Rooms will also be open for use
  • Netball: will run on Thursday, but it will be cancelled next week (12 January) due to a basketball fixture
