Officially, our transition week has ended although we are keeping the online material available until September so that our incoming Year 7 students, currently in Year 6 and their parents/carers can revisit it.
As has been the case everywhere, for more than a year we have been unable to hold live events or have visitors here at school or for our Year 7 Manager Mrs Yates to visit our feeder schools as she normally would. As a result we have embraced the online world using video, downloads, website and video conferencing.
Using Microsoft Teams, Mrs Yates has carried out ‘virtual’ school visits with small groups of children from the feeder primary schools, giving students the opportunity to meet staff, get information and to ask questions. “I’ve talked about how our school is much like theirs with teachers, lessons, breaks and so on but that it’s just bigger and with more variety of subjects and rooms,” said Mrs Yates. “A lot of them are excited about specialist classrooms like labs and sports areas; things they don’t normally have at primary school.”
The Virtual Transition Week page contains lots of useful information and interesting links and there are Subject Focus blogs, topic challenges and videos to see. Why not visit the pages and take on some of the challenges?
Video presentations for students and parents/carers from staff including the Principal and some of our current Year 7 students give a glimpse of life at Heart of England as well as providing more information for the year ahead.
As we are unable to have live tours, video tours, photographs, 360° panoramas and a 3D tour give valuable opportunities to ‘see’ the school and featured areas in detail and is as close to the real thing as we can make it.
We look forward to welcoming our new Year 7 students in September and in the meantime we invite you to visit the transition area of the website and get to know us a little more before you arrive.
See you in September!
