Lord Mayor’s Sixth Form Mega Quiz at Birmingham University

Science Teacher Mrs Beer reports on a successful outing to Edgbaston by our intrepid team in the Lord Mayor’s Mega Quiz…

On Thursday 24 November, six Year 12 and 13 students formed our first Heart of England team entry for the Lord Mayor’s Mega Quiz.

The Mega Quiz team

The quiz was held in the auspicious Great Hall of Birmingham University and we were one of 35 teams taking part. Teams came from schools from all over the area and included academies, grammar schools and private schools.  The atmosphere was buzzing; it was fun, friendly and above all competitive.

The entry fee for the quiz helps to support the Lord Mayors Charity Appeal which includes charities like Birmingham Youth Sport and Radio Lollipop, based at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Our fabulous Heart of England team was captained by Laurence and included Hannah, Sam, Charlotte, Sarah and Oliver.

The quiz itself consisted of ten rounds of topics such as maths, geography, music, modern history, social media and natural history. Teams could play a Joker for one chosen round which they thought they might do well in to double their point score for that round.

In our first ever Lord mayors quiz I am delighted to report that we came 14th out of 35 Teams.  Congratulations to our first ever Heart of England team!  Roll on next year – we will be ready.
