Dear Parent/Carer

Following my last update, I am now writing to let you know that we have been instructed to close the school to almost all children after this Friday (20th March) until further notice.

As advised by the Government, we will do all we can to stay open for children of key workers and children with certain needs. Examples of these workers include NHS staff, police and supermarket delivery drivers who need to be able to go to work to support our health and communities. Vulnerable children include those who have a social worker and those with Education, Health and Care Plans – a legal document that describes a child’s special educational needs and the support they require. In the event that we are unable to continue to provide support, owing to staffing, the local authority is working on centralized contingency plans.

In order for us to assess the necessary provision and plan accordingly, could we ask that if you fall into the category of key worker and require a place at school that you complete the attached proforma and return by e-mail to as soon as possible or by 3:30 today. We will be in touch again as soon as possible with more information regarding any arrangements we are able to put in place.

All other children will need to remain at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday 23 March onwards.

Please note that this is a national closure. It is a challenging situation for us all but we are in this together and you are not alone. We will re-open fully as soon as we can and will let you know when this is by updating our website and social media channels.

What we’ll continue doing while your child is at home

Details about our provision for learning from home can be found in our previous correspondence:

If your child usually receives free school meals we will also be in touch with more information about how we will continue to provide this.

What we won’t be able to go ahead with

As you will appreciate all school trips and extra curricular activities are cancelled until further notice.

Year 11 and Year 13

You will be aware that the Government have announced that all public examinations have been cancelled this summer. At present we are not aware of what will happen with regards to any assessment or certification of arrangements moving forward. As soon as we have additional information we will communicate further guidance.

This is as much as we know at present and we appreciate your continued patience as we deal with this ever-changing situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your family and it is far from ideal, but we will continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops.

If you want to get in touch, to share any concerns, please don’t hesitate to do so via Remember: if you or your child feels ill and you want to know what to do next, please use NHS 111 online.

Thank you again for your continued support, we will be in touch with further information as the situation develops.

Yours sincerely

J Hughes-Williams
