Our Transition Co-ordinator, Mrs Yates introduces herself to Year 6 students joining us is September with her very first blog post!

Welcome to this blog which is specially for our new Year 7 students—yes that’s you!

graphicI’m Mrs Yates and you may remember that I wrote to you a few weeks ago when I heard that you would be joining us at Heart of England School.

My job is to tell you everything you need to know about starting secondary school and help you when you start here at Heart of England. I have been working at Heart of England School for over 15 years so I am good at answering questions about our school.

I have never written a blog before and am excited to be trying something new.  Did you know that “blog” is short for “web log.” It is a type of diary on a website. My blog will be about what life will be like at Heart of England School. Over the next few weeks I’ll blog about lots of different topics so keep checking back to see the latest post from me.

To finish this first entry I thought I would tell you a few things about my hobbies and interests.

graphicI love books and reading. I’ve just finished reading The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson-Burnett and absolutely loved it. As well as being a story about friendship, it is also a good reminder that kindness can make a real difference in the world especially when things seem difficult.

graphicI asked our current Year 7 students to recommend some books and I’ve had some great responses. One of the books is called Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. I have never read it and so decided to start reading it yesterday. It’s about a boy called Jim Hawkins who longs for an adventure. He goes off to sea and encounters pirates, gold and a parrot called Captain Flint.

graphicI have also been playing some games at home with my children both indoors and outdoors. Scrabble and chess are my favourite board games but I have also been playing badminton and Swingball in the garden. I’m not very good at Swingball but it is a lot of fun!

I’d love to hear about your hobbies and interests and any books that you would like to recommend.

In my next blog I am going to tell you about our four houses.

Bye for now,

graphicMrs Yates
