Students have been collecting their GCSE results from the school hall today after the first full set of public GCSE examinations since 2019.

As the first students came through the door there was a feeling of expectation and a calm and cheerful atmosphere as they entered the hall to collect their envelopes. Subject teachers were available to talk through results and answer any queries. Head of Sixth Form Grace Theay, Assistant Principal for Progress Sally Owen and our careers adviser were also on hand to offer advice and help on choices and next steps.
“I’m pleased. Very pleased,” said one of the first students in. “I didn’t expect to do so well.”
Every set of results means options for individuals who are using their grades to decide their next move. The choices available are wide and varied, reflecting the interests, ambitions and aspirations of our students.
Apprenticeship candidate George said: “I’ve done well – I’ve achieved more than the requirements for my apprenticeship course in Construction Project Management,” as he takes steps towards a career in construction.
Sarah who attained all grade 9s said: “It was more than I could have hoped for!” and she will be joining us for Sixth Form to study Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Further Maths. She has her mind set on a career in Medical Engineering.
Another student who has done really well is Autumn. Very pleased with her results, she will be taking up her place to do a Beauty Therapy course at Solihull College.
Many of our students have elected to join us at Heart of England Sixth Form in the next stage of their academic journey. Students who applied online earlier in the year received conditional offers and successful candidates will have been sent an email to confirm their place. “A good number have made the grades for Sixth Form,” said Mrs Theay, “we look forward to welcoming them in September.
Students Caitlin and Chloe have been successful in their application to Sixth Form and will be studying Maths, Further Maths and English, and Chemistry, Psychology and English Language respectively.
Further reflecting the choices of students, Ben has also been successful in obtaining his Sixth Form place with us. He has applied to do Maths, Computer Science and Economics and has his eye set on a career in Data Engineering. “Overall, I’m very happy with my results – I’ve got what I wanted for the A Levels I need.”
GCSE results day is a great opportunity for our students to take stock and look at the choices they have for their next destination. Every student is unique and their choices reflect this.
Ms Owen said: “It was lovely to see so many students arrive in person this morning to open their results with their friends. Particularly after the difficult past two years; it was wonderful to see lots of grins and hear whoops of joy! We wish all students the best of luck with their next destination.”
Our Principal, Ms Hughes-Williams congratulated students throughout the morning and said: “the class of 2022 have navigated extraordinary times and their achievements today are a total credit to them, their families and our dedicated staff and trustees. It was a joy to see so many truly thrilled students and I am deeply proud of them.”
