†What is the EBACC?

The EBACC is a performance measure of qualifications across a set of core subjects.  A student has ‘qualified’ for the EBACC if they attained a 4+ in English, Maths, Sciences, a Language and either History or Geography.  The EBACC is not a qualification in itself.

‡What is Attainment 8?

Attainment 8 measures students’ attainment across 8 qualifications including: maths (double weighted) and English (double weighted, if both English language and English literature are sat),  3 qualifications that count in the English Baccalaureate (EBACC) measures and 3 further qualifications that can be GCSE qualifications (including EBACC subjects) or technical awards from the DfE approved list.

*What is Progress 8?

Progress 8 aims to capture the progress that students in a school make from the end of primary school to the end of key stage 4.  It is a type of value added measure, which means that students’ results are compared to the progress of other students nationally with similar prior attainment.
