Hello!
Welcome to this blog which is specially for our new Year 7 students—yes that’s you!
I’m Mrs Yates and my job is to tell you everything you need to know about starting secondary school and hep you when you start here. I have been working at Heart of England School for over 17 years and so I know lots of information and am good at answering questions about our school.
Did you know that “blog” is short for web log? It is a type of diary on a website. My blog will be about what life will be like at Heart of England School. Over the next few weeks, I’ll blog about lots of different topics so keep checking back to see the latest post from me. In this first entry I thought I would tell you a few things about my hobbies and interests.
I love books and reading. One of my favourite books is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson-Burnett As well as being a story about friendship, it is also a good reminder that kindness can make a real difference in the world especially when things seem difficult.
I particularly like fiction books that help me learn about different periods of history. The book I am reading at the moment is about China, and is fascinating. It’s going to take me a while to read it as it is over 700 pages!
I try to do cryptic crosswords. A cryptic crossword is one where each clue is a puzzle. Sometimes when you work out a clue you learn something. I run a board games club at school for Year 7 and we play games such as Scrabble, Uno, chess and Boggle and I’m hoping some of you will want to come along to play the games and meet new friends.
I’m really enjoying being able to visit primary schools this year to meet with you and hear about your hobbies. Don’t worry if I haven’t been to your school yet, I will be visiting in the next couple of weeks.
Bye for now
Mrs Yates
